Letter from the President | March 2020

Dear Members and Friends of the Los Angeles World Affairs Council & Town Hall,

In response to continuing developments with the novel Coronavirus and discussions with our speakers and venues, we are making the following changes to our programming lineup:

Programs scheduled for March and early April that will be rescheduled for a future date:

  • Breakfast with Jeffrey Wasserstrom “Hong Kong on the Brink”— originally scheduled for March 25th
  • Young Professionals Reception “The Future of Money” (venue cancelled) — originally scheduled for March 26th
  • Election Series Breakfast with John Thomas — originally scheduled for April 2nd
  • Roundtable with Greek Ambassador Alexandra Papadopoulou – originally scheduled for March 26th

If you are registered for one of the events that has been postponed, we will contact you individually and issue a refund for your ticket purchase. The health and well-being of our members, event attendees and speakers is paramount.

During these next few months, we will be developing and launching digital programs as a means of delivering compelling and engaging content on international, national and regional topics and issues. We’re excited to announce two upcoming initiatives:

  • Online videos: These will be short, 10 minute videos that will be available on our YouTube, website, and social media channels. They will be free and open to the public as a means to provide timely, informational content on global and domestic topics.
  • Live Webinars: Similar to our live programs, these will be live digital events, exclusively for members, that will bring together subject experts and give them the chance to ask their pressing questions via a real-time Q&A.

You can find all information on these upcoming programs on our website and via our weekly email announcements which you can subscribe to here.

While these may be uncertain times, I do know this:  New ideas, credible information, intellectual engagement and interpersonal connection have been, and will continue to be, the hallmarks of success and continuity for our non-profit organization. The spirit and vibrancy of LAWACTH is attributable to our loyal and dedicated members who are true ambassadors of our mission and care deeply about the world around us.

I personally look forward to staying connected to all of you in new and exciting ways.  If you need to reach us, our staff is available at (424) 258-6160 or via email at membership@lawacth.org.
