Writers Bloc and the Los Angeles World Affairs Council & Town Hall present former Presidential Candidate and Mayor of South Bend, Pete Buttigieg. Discussing his new book "Trust," Buttigieg argues we need to foster an “American way of trust” at this painfully polarized juncture in US politics. The discussion is moderated by broadcast journalist, Judy Woodruff, who is the anchor and managing editor of the PBS NewsHour. She has covered politics and other news for five decades at NBC, CNN and PBS.
He is a very intelligent guy. He’s gonna be an excellent president one day
My thoughts exactly.
Hope he runs for president again & in the interim representative or senator in US Congress for experience. He’s brilliant!
Intelligence and integrity matter in leaders. Pete Buttigieg is way above and beyond any GOP in the government, not to say, the one bozo contaminating the white house for the last 4 years.
Screw you and your "New World Order" Your Democratic party is dead. It no longer exists. It was hijacked by terrorists.
What an incredible contrast to the Angry Orangutan in the White HouseI'm referring to the first presidential debate with Joe. Trump was insane.Pete makes me feel a sense of calm
I don't know what else to say, except that Pete Buttigieg may be the most promising bright spot in our otherwise drab and desolate political landscape. He's knowledgeable, intelligent, and caring. Those three attributes are what we need most from our future leaders.
He needs to run for President in 2024! Intelligent, stern, and with compassion. Something that we have lacked in these last 4yrs.
Mayor Pete would make an excellent President of this United States. Lets vote him in in 2024.
Enough with Pete nobody likes Pete... He's everybody's pocket... But also he kind of looks like that spoiled rich kid that you kind of hate. It's not worthy that he summered in Italy as a child, truthfully his family used to go to Italy every summer. I would say this is perfectly acceptable, if you're a Italian kid... Otherwise
A good and learned friend dismissed Mayor Pete at the beginning of the Democratic Candidates' debate season as too young. I saw Pete as what I dreamed politics could and should be and backed him 100% - he is wise beyond his years and lives in his heart, which is reflected in his amazing mind. (Can anyone truthfully say they've ever heard Pete struggle for a thoughtful response to anything? ) My friend won out on projecting Biden's nomination, and of course, I now fully support Joe 100%. Nevertheless, I am optimistic about the future of this country because of Pete, and I can only hope that what I saw in him from day one is what everyone will see when his time at bat arrives!
I would love to see Pete become PRESS SECRETARY. America would come to know and trust him.
What an intelligent and thoughtful conversation! I hope he wins a place in the next administration. He will be a great president one day!
I would also add (to the question referring to making people trust you and not trust your opponent) that it is not just that the person who is gaslighting or denying reality in order to influence voters that they are really the only choice doesn't believe they can win. Its also the distrust in people to elect them based on merit, but also that they really dont have interest in working for the public and honoring the office, that they want to win, regardless of the cost. If the candidates who do this truly had any interest in honoring the office theyre running for, of honoring the public and doing what's best for the people they swear to serve. In providing lies and trying to deceive the public, they prove they dont really want whats best for the public, they want to win. They want to manipulate people to win, and I would go further and say it proves that the person will end up failing the people who elected them, and it shows how they will actively try to deceive the public later on so they can act selfishly and achieve what is best for them or their friends/donars instead of what is best for the people they serve.

The Scandinavian model. I wish you people knew more about the reality of how it works. There is more AVAILABILITY of public services due to high taxes, but that is no guarantee for QUALITY. The American model doesn´t work either.
My trust in Buttigieg has never been disappointed, this interview included. He handles questioning like no other with a rare, very rare, combination of comprehension and expression.
Turns out Pete had 40 billionaires and their wives donated to his presidential campaign. Forbes found out these billionaires were from 10 different industries. Charming, but he is not to be trusted.
Someday Buttigieg is going to be an awesome President for the USA.
Trump has deliberately flouted science, social distancing and made a mockery of masks, refusing to wear a mask in situations where it was deemed necessary by hospital authorities and medical consultants.During the onset of COVID-19 Trump repeatedly lied to the American people about the severity of the virus, repeatedly thumbing his nose in the face of science with ridiculous pseudoscience claims that could potentially endanger others, over 200,000 American citizens are now dead with the numbers climbing due to his inaction. Statistics were not on Trumps side as he openly encouraged people to attend rallies without social distancing and other protective measures in place. He's now tested positive with the all too real possibility that prior to diagnosis, of having spread the virus to countless others through his selfishness and willful ignorance of scientific evidence. Trump has brought this upon himself and he only has himself to blame due to his own arrogance and hubris. It's not the past lies that is the issue, but the fact is; in the future everything Trump states will be suspect and questioned just like the words of Conley, his supposed "Doctor", there is nothing transparent about that administration, the trust has long been destroyed and Pence helped drive the nail in the coffin of his Vice Presidential term. We need Biden and Harris to repair the damage done to our global reputation! Is another four years of chaos, lies and deception from the TRUMP/PENCE Administration what we deserve as American Citizens?Criminal Indictments by Administration Donald Trump (so far) -- 215Richard Nixon -- 76 George W.
