Join the Los Angeles World Affairs Council & Town Hall for a Roundtable Lunch with the Ambassador of Greece to the United States, Alexandra Papadopoulou. Ambassador Papadopoulou is the first woman ever to be appointed Greek Ambassador to the United States. The conversation will focus broadly on Greek-US relations and Greece-EU relations. Ambassador Papadopoulou will also dive into her work in Kosovo – she was former head of the European Union Rule of Law Mission (EULEX) in Kosovo – as well as hone in on the pressing topic of immigration within Greece.

Ambassador Alexandra Papadopoulou is the first woman ever to be appointed Greek Ambassador to the United States. Before assuming her post, she was the head of the diplomatic bureau of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis. She was also the former head of the European Union Rule of Law Mission (EULEX) in Kosovo. A decorated public servant of her country, she has served as Ambassador of Greece to Uruguay and Paraguay, Permanent Representative of Greece to the European Union, and has worked in countless Greek Embassies around the world.

Sharon E. J. Gerstel (moderator) is a Professor of Byzantine Art & Archaeology and the Director of the UCLA Stavros Niarchos Foundation Center for the Study of Hellenic Culture. Her work focuses on the intersection of ritual and art in Byzantium and the Latin East. As an archaeologist, she has worked at numerous excavations in Greece, both as a field director and as a ceramics specialist. Professor Gerstel has written and edited multiple award-winning publications based on her research.
