Los Angeles World Affairs Council & Town Hall


The Los Angeles World Affairs Council & Town Hall (LAWACTH) is now accepting applications for spring and summer interns. Interns at LAWACTH are instrumental in facilitating discussions on current events and foreign affairs with the most influential people in Los Angeles and from around the world. The internship program offers practical professional office experience at a non-profit membership organization focused on international affairs. The staff at LAWACTH is responsible for providing membership benefits for over 1300 members across the greater Los Angeles region in the form of high-level events, discussions and conferences.

This summer we have three unique intern positions, listed below. All interns are unpaid, but eligible for receiving school credit. Interns will receive paid parking and a portion of transportation reimbursement, if eligible. Additionally interns will be mentored 1-on-1 by a LAWACTH staff member, gain free access to our programming during the course of the internship, and receive one free year of membership with the LAWACTH Young Professionals.

Research & Development Intern

The Research & Development Intern will work with our Programming and Development teams. Intern will develop insight into producing live public programs, as well as nonprofit funding and management.

The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with a strategic mind, strong time management skills, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate effectively. They will be collaborative and someone who thrives in a fast paced, results-oriented environment. This person should be a highly-motivated and organized. They should be passionate about global affairs, civic discourse, and educational programming.


  • Researching and proposing ideas for new programs
  • Attending Council events and facilitating event implementation
  • Promoting and publicizing LAWACTH programs: researching new marketing techniques and helping with placement of advertisements, flyer distribution, and collaboration with local organizations
  • Supporting staff in preparation and execution of donor and member events
  • General office administration – assist with mailings, data-entry, calendar management


  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to research thoroughly on tight deadlines
  • Experience with Microsoft Office is a plus
  • Ability to attend LAWACTH events, including some early mornings and late weekday evenings

Marketing & Communications Intern

The Marketing & Communications Intern will work directly with our Marketing and Communications Team. Intern will develop insight into crafting brand strategies and marketing plans for live events and other major initiatives. 


  • Supporting and engaging our followers on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn
  • Promoting LAWACTH events on online events-listing websites
  • Assisting the Social Media and Marketing Manager with strategic implementations and administrative support
  • Assisting in the creation of promotional collateral, as well as online and social media content
  • General office administration – assist with mailings, data-entry, calendar management


  • Interest in nonprofit communications technology and marketing
  • You should be an articulate networker, creative, independent and have an excellent eye for detail (proper spelling and grammar is vital)
  • Excellent writing and communications skills
  • Additional preference given to candidates with web or graphic design experience (Adobe Photoshop, HTML, CSS) and online marketing/analytics experience


Finance & Business Operations Intern

The Finance & Business Operations Intern will work closely with our Executive Vice President and Membership Manager. Intern will develop key insight into non-profit management, finance, accounting, and human resources.


  • Assist with accounting tasks and financial reports
  • Support preparation of annual operating budget
  • Perform financial and statistical analysis
  • Help with accounts receivable and payable
  • General office administration – assist with mailings, data-entry, calendar management



  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Pursuing a career in finance, accounting, business, economics or a related field
  • Experience with Microsoft Office with specific proficiency in Excel
  • Great research skills and ability to compile information coherently
  • Interest in human resources, non-profit management or finance & accounting
