The Student Program provides a unique opportunity for Public High Schools in Los Angeles County to have their students hear influential international figures first hand.  Seating is limited, but schools participate in the program free of charge thanks in large part to private donations. Whenever possible, students are given the opportunity to meet privately with our guest speaker and ask their own questions.

Attending our Events

Only Public High Schools in the Los Angeles County area are eligible for free tickets to Council events.

Student seating is limited. Reservations are made on a first-come, first-served basis. To make a reservation, call Kenisha Danley at (213) 628-2333.

Each school is allowed five tickets (four students and one teacher) per meeting.

Cancellations must be made by noon the day before the meeting.

Unclaimed tickets will be billed to the school rather than to the Student Program fund.

Meeting the Speaker

Student Briefings allow students to meet privately with the visiting speaker and ask their own questions.  Briefings are arranged with as many speakers as possible.  Schools with reservations will be notified in advance as to the status of the briefing.  Typically, briefings last 15 minutes and are  held after luncheon programs and before dinner meetings.

Students are expected to have questions (not statements) prepared and be ready to participate.  When possible, schools will receive a packet of background information on the speaker/topic at the event.

Students represent the Los Angeles community and should show respect to the speaker and their views, and dress professionally.

Teachers are expected to help students prepare beforehand, and supervise students at the event.

When addressing the speaker, students should remember to precede questions with the proper salutation (“Ambassador_____”, “Doctor_____”, etc.), state their own name, and the name of the school he/she is representing.

Dress Code

We realize that most students will not own business attire but both students and teachers should dress neatly.  Smart slacks or dresses are suggested, and an appropriate button-up shirt or blouse.  Men should wear a tie and jacket if possible.  T-shirts and jeans are not permitted.
