His Excellency Miguel Ángel Moratinos Cuyaubé will speak about his renewed vision  for the work United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) as a soft-power political tool supporting the overall UN agenda on conflict prevention and cconflict resolution. On March 23, 2019 the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres has tasked UNAOC and H.E. Moratinos with developing a UN Plan of Action for Safeguarding Religious Sites. As a seasoned diplomat, Mr. Moratinos has spent much of his career engaged in the Middle East Peace Process and strengthening Spanish-Arab relations. Mr. Moratinos will share his insight into how multilateralism is the only way forward to address today's global challenges and achieve peace and security. 

UNAOC has identified four priority areas for action: Education, Youth, Migration, Media. UNAOC project activities, fashioned around these four areas, which can play a critical role in helping to reduce cross-cultural tensions and to build bridges between communities.

Appointed by Secretary General Antonio Guterres, H.E. Miguel Aìngel Moratinos, The High Representative of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations, assumed his new post on 7th January 2019.

Mr. Moratinos has committed his professional and political career to international relationships and development cooperation, notably as Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Spain from 2004 to 2010. During his tenure as Foreign Minister, Spain presided over the UN Security Council in 2004, held the chairmanships-in-office of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), the Council of Europe and the Council of the European Union. Mr. Moratinos succeeded in fostering the implementation of the Treaty of Lisbon and the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union. You can read more about his work here.
