Chaudhry will discuss the China Pakistan Economic Corridor, CPEC, a $54 billion project financed by China which is designed to link western China to Pakistan’s ports of Gwadar and Karachi by a series of new highways and rail links running the length of Pakistan. He will also talk about the current state of the long-running Kashmir dispute between Pakistan and India, along with Pakistan’s hope that the Trump administration will be proactively engaged in resolving the conflict.
Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry became Pakistan's Ambassador to the United States in March of this year. Previously, he was Pakistan’s Foreign Secretary – its top diplomat underneath the Foreign Minister - and he has worked in his country’s Foreign Service for 35 years. He has served as Additional Foreign Secretary for UN and Disarmament Affairs, and Director General for relations with South Asian countries, in which capacity he has remained closely associated with the peace process with India.
