The Council typically has three undergraduate internship positions available for Spring, Summer and Fall each year. The following internship positions are available:
Events / Membership
Interns help maintain the Council's membership records with new memberships and renewals. At events, interns assist at the ticket table, answer guest questions and seat attendees. Interns develop important business skills in professional interaction. Interns are also involved in the creation of presentations to local college groups about the Council, its mission, and its activities. Ideal for those interested in non-profit management and the hospitality industry.
Our interns assist in the day-to-day operation of the Council office. Position requires administrative competency. Duties often include sending and keeping track of invitation letters to potential speakers, transcribing recorded speeches, and preparing photo albums and folios for members of our International Circle and Board of Directors. At events, interns will assist in running the VIP reception and facilitating photo opportunities for our members. Ideal for those interested in administrative or hospitality-related careers.
Public Relations Assistant
Duties here include performing research assignments in support of upcoming speakers and issues, helping with outreach to media contacts, contributing to press and student information packets, maintaining media contact databases, and editing transcripts of recorded speeches for our publications. At events, this intern may assist in working with communications technology and working with media attendees. Ideal for those interested in journalism, multimedia, public relations, and communications.
Work on projects and assignments related to International Circle members, the Council's highest level of membership. Must have exceptional interpersonal skills. This intern will assist in managing relationships with International Circle and Board members and may also assist in creating proposals for financial assistance from corporations. At events, this intern may aid in the VIP Reception as well as liaising with upper-level members. Ideal for those interested in development, particularly in the non-profit field.
Take footage and photos of speaker events for both the LAWAC General Council Programs and the Young Professionals Program. Intern will be responsible for photographing, filming, editing (to an under 5 minute video to highlight the program) and uploading photos and footage to a specified media site. Intern is expected to also coordinate and film interviews with speakers and attendees to be used as a marketing tool for the Los Angeles World Affairs Council and the Young Professionals Program.
Assist with designing event announcements, flyers and other graphic needs for the General Council and Young Professionals. Intern should be familiar with Adobe Photoshop and InDesign, Microsoft Expressions Web and Microsoft Publisher and have a basic understanding of HTML. Ideal for those interested in graphic design.
