Los Angeles World Affairs Council 


The Los Angeles World Affairs Council (LAWAC) is soliciting applications for spring and summer interns. Interns at LAWAC are instrumental in facilitating discussions on current events and foreign affairs with the most influential people in Los Angeles and from around the world. The internship program offers practical professional office experience at a non-profit membership organization focused on international affairs. The staff at LAWAC is responsible for providing membership benefits for over 1300 members across the greater Los Angeles region in the form of high-level events, discussions and conferences.

LAWAC interns support the staff and by doing so acquire event management and communication skills, customer service experience and administrative expertise. LAWAC interns are given the opportunity to hone their office skills and develop great work habits for their future careers. Customized opportunities are available for students that are interested in communications, information technology or development.

  • Organizing events, which includes taking reservations, facilitating set-up, greeting members and speakers, and taking notes
  • Working with LAWAC team members, identifying a long-term project that the intern will have ownership of and will be completed at the end of the internship 
  • Driving membership by identifying and assisting in the recruitment of future members 
  • Executing research projects on an as needed basis 
  • Assisting in the creation of promotional collateral, as well as online and social media content 
  • General office administration – assist with mailings, data-entry, calendar management


  • Demonstrated interest or experience in foreign affairs, communications, IT or non-profit management 
  • Customer service experience (minimum of 6 months) 
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills 
  • Experience with Microsoft Office is a plus 
  • Ability to attend LAWAC events, including some early mornings and late weekday evenings 
  • Commit 14 hours weekly in our office in Culver City
